District 8 Hot Spot for Teens

Calling all boys and girls, ages 13 to 19: the District 8 Hot Spot is back at the Pannell Meadowview Community Center!

Enjoy basketball, a teen room, movies, games, snacks and more. Friday nights from 7 pm to 11 pm on the following dates: February 28, March 21, April 4, May 2, June 6, August 1, September 5, October 3, November 7, and December 5, 2014.

Feb. 20th Board Meeting

Celebrate Black History Month at Florin Road's SOJO Museum

The Sojourner Truth Multicultural Arts Museum has a special lecture for Black History Month. Malik McDaniels will speak about the U.S. Constitution and African-Americans throughout our country's history.

Lecture dates are Tuesdays, Feb. 11, 18 and 25 from 6-8 pm. The location is the SOJO Museum at 2251 Florin Rd #126, Sacramento (near 24th St.) $5 suggested donation.

We're looking for a responsible, motivated individual, age 18 or older, who lives or works in the ZIP codes of 95822, 95823, 95828, or 95832. Duties include planning our annual fundraiser, selecting scholarship recipients, and approving grants to K-12 schools and nonprofits.

Meetings are held 3 times per year on Thursdays from 12:30 pm to 2:00 pm at our office in south Sacramento, California. The meetings are casual with a complimentary lunch and free raffle prize drawing. The total annual time commitment is approximately 10 to 12 hours. This is an unpaid, volunteer position.

TET Festival Rescheduled Due to Rain

The Annual Vietnamese TET Festival planned for this weekend has been rescheduled due to inclement weather. The new dates are Saturday, February 15, 2014 from 11 am to 8 pm, and Sunday, February 16 from 11 am to 6 pm. The event will be held at the northeast corner of Florin Road and Stockton Boulevard (across from Florin Towne Centre).

This family-friendly event is expected to draw crowds of up to 25,000. Activities will include a parade, carnival, food vendors, merchant booths, entertainment, and a health and wellness fair.

25th Annual Sweet Potato Festival

The 25th Annual Sweet Potato Festival is Saturday, February 8, 2014, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm at the Pannell Community Center, 2450 Meadowview Road, Sacramento.
